Community Hauora Workforce Development Project

The community hauora workforce development project involves the development and testing of a national best practice placement guideline (in conjunction with providers) to support hauora and non-hauora providers to receive tauira neehi practicum placement that is clinically and culturally appropriate.

This project follows on from the commencement of Te Ohanga Mataora Paetahi - Bachelor of Maori Health Sciences (Nursing) being delivered from Te Whare Wananga O Awanuiarangi in Manukau, and the need to focus Hauora providers attention to the preparation and practicum placement of tauira neehi commencing 2010.

The project is being undertaken by Nga Ngaru Hauora O Aotearoa from February to November 2009 with funding support provided by Te Puni Kokiri.  Focus group hui and input into the guideline have been held with Maori provider organisations, maori nurse educators, maori student nurses, industry advisors and kahui kaumatua to inform the development of these guidelines and a project team has been engaged to oversee the project and write the guidelines. The Project Manager is Tio Sewell - Executive Committee Member of Nga Ngaru Hauora O Aotearoa and Managing Director of his own business Naianei Business Solutions, the kaupapa co-ordinator is Ngaire Whata - Chairperson of Nga Ngaru Hauora O Aotearoa and the project administrator on behalf of Pacific Admin - Professional Admin Experts is Seilena Phillips.
